KLCI (25 Jan 2008)

KLCI Weekly Chart

Long shadow hammer gives hope for the continuation of uptrend. But MACD and stochastic is pointing down. I will bet that it is going up. Why? It's election year and foreign funds are in. Do you notice the increase in BNM international reserves. Furthermore, blue chips are highly traded. Let's hope that my bet is correct.

Hongkong & Shanghai

HSI Weekly Chart

Very long shadow candle. That could mean that the correction is over. Monthly chart still shows that the bulls are in control. Another weekly white candle should confirm the bottom of 21700. Does that mean that it is going for an Olympic rally? Will it be a marathon or a sprint? I'm stalking for possible trades. The problem is that many CW are deep out of the money. So have to wait for the next batch of new CW with lower exercise price.

HSCE Weekly Chart

A very long shadow doji. Another weekly white candle will be nice. No monthly chart reading because it is launch only in Dec 2006.

SSEC Weekly Chart

No reversal sign. The selling pressure is still strong. Why? Releasing funds for the cheaper Hongkong? Maybe the story will change by the end of week.

Around the World in 80 seconds

Losses from one trade must be covered with profit from another. One selling leads to another, and the world sells together.

Looking at the monthly chart, there are still pockets of bulls here and there:
S&P 500: Bear
FTSE: Bear
DAX: Bear
Bovespa: Bull under correction.
Nikkei: Bear
Kospi: Going into bear.
Sensex: Bull under correction.
SSEC: Bull under correction.
HSI: Bull under severe correction which may turn into bear
KLCI: Bull under correction.

Where Are Thou, My Gomen?

Boy oh boy. Hopefully today is the final panic selling. Losers just overwhelm winners 10 to 1. Hopefully, you see big headlines in the major newspaper tomorrow. Then you know the selling may halt temporary. Any rebound is a good time to get out of the weak stocks first, then the stronger one. Looking on the other side of the coin, this could be a very profitable play for a rebound.

KLCI technicals reinforce the bearish divergence in the weekly chart. Are we going into the next 5 years of bear year. When will the authorities approve the issuing of put warrants?

Anyway, what's the probability of HSI and SSEC diving another 5% everyday for the rest of the week? If it happens, this is the black swan that kill the long-only fund while benefiting the hedge funds.

Where is the invincible hand, gomen?

KLCI

KLCI Weekly Chart

I was expecting a mild correction. But it was not to be. Long term trend is still up but RSI uptrend broken! A bad omen of things to come. I always used long term signals to enter, so it's natural to be caught like this. Sigh...profit vanish again.

Manipulation

Seems like certain quarters are complaining about the last minute push up or the force pushed of KLCI.

I read at their statements and I want to laugh. Since when the stock market is not manipulated? So what to complain? Jim Cramer has admitted of manipulation. Even the US government manipulate the stock market through their Plunge Protection Team. So what's wrong if our government manipulate the market? The invincible hand has been pushing the index since Christmas.

Trading in stocks always comes with a certain risk. We need to always beware of the big crocodiles. They manipulate the price, the volume and the news. They play with your emotion. That's why it is never easy to make money.

So either you dance along with them or you just sit at the sideline watching. It's ok to highlight the manipulative dangers to the young and innocent, but don't make it a political issue or complaint Aiyoh, politicians themselves are equally manipulative. But they act as if they are holier than thou. My point is manipulative push up or push down are all natural actions in a stock market.

My current reading of the KLCI:
Correction has set in (obvious statement). If uptrend to continue, the correction should not fall below around 1480. That's all I can interpret from the chart. It's it all over? It's only 2 days action, I can't conclude from just two days of data. One thing for sure, I don't see any euphoric volume yet (because many retailers are aware of the manipulation?).

Well, if the Ringgit continue to strengthen against the US dollar, I guess the foreigners will buy more of our stock. I'm still concentrating on the blue chips counters. If they want to manipulate, then it is easier to buy the largest weighting KLCI component to push up. Furthermore, foreigners will only buy large liquid stocks.

Some of by holdings have good buffer, some have gone back to square one. Some are near my stop loss. I will stay aside for now until the selling pressure subsides. When? I hope soon.

Feng Shui Article

Ok. I copy and paste from Business Times Online.

I will review it from time to time to find out the effectiveness of this technique for stock picking.

A year to think big

By Chong Pooi Koon
pooikoon@nstp.com.my

FOR those who believe in "Feng Shui", the Year of Earth Rat may bring a bumper harvest for industries that include the stock market, entertainment, mining, jewellery, real estate and construction.

However, it will be difficult for the shipping, banking and transport sectors, while stiff competition in agriculture, plantation and publishing industries will allow only the best to survive, according to well-known Feng Shui guru, Lillian Too.

"This is a year of unbalanced elements with 'metal' and 'fire' sorely lacking. But it is also a year blessed with wealth and victory luck, and the key to getting the most out of the year is simply to get the timing right," Too told a packed audience at a full-day Feng Shui talk in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The year has plenty of wealth potential, and is a year to think big. All animal signs, except for horse, could benefit from taking risks and being brave, she said.

"It is a year when being big-hearted reaps dividends. Your attention should be focused on spotting opportunities that bring long-term benefits."

Too said the missing fire element is making the financial market look very unstable this year, suggesting that the uncertainties resulting from the US subprime problem may not be ending yet.

Nevertheless, she said the second half of the year will be better and that investors may accumulate shares when prices fall and take the pickings later in the year.

Too also told investors to bet on real estate this year.

"Earth is wealth, so buy property. But make sure they are landed property. You must be able to feel the earth and feel the wealth."

She added that 2008 will be a great year for those born under the Chinese sign of rabbit.

Generally, people should wear more red and yellow gold to attract positive energy that will bring wealth and prosperity.

Overall, the missing 'fire' and 'metal' means the lack of creativity, intelligence and power.

"There will be not-so-smart people being thrown into the spotlight, making stupid mistakes," Too said.

She said the clash of "water" and "earth" indicates political and international conflicts in the global arena. However, the Rat Year will bring new beginnings, new international relations and new government.

Sector Index Analysis (11 Jan 2008)

KLCI Weekly Chart

What a rally. Daily is overbought. Weekly coming to overbought zone too. Correction should set in, if not I will get more nervous. The target for most analyst has been reached in the 2nd week of the year. What's next? Just ride the bull.

Finance Index Weekly Chart

Maybank and Commerz help the index to break out. I missed out Maybank warrant. Commerz has no warrant, so left PBBank. I hope it will move too. Chart not yet overbought, so I am expecting for more upside.

Construction Index Weekly Chart

Breakout too. I'm wondering how far will Gamuda go. I'm still observing YTL. The chart for YTL does not look good. Maybe I should consider Cresbld?

Plantation Index Weekly Chart

Still going up. No idea where will it stop.

Property Index Weekly Chart

Downtrend confirm broken. I shall wait for the base building phase first. I will still not buy any property counter yet.

2nd Board Daily Chart

Downtrend has been broken. Still waiting for the base building phase. Not interested in any 2nd board counters.

Mesdaq Daily Chart

Downtrend has also been broken. Will wait for the base building phase. Don't have any interest in Mesdaq counters.

Warrant selection rules

My warrant selection rules:
0. The underlying stock must give some (or already given) bullish signals.
1. More than 2 months of lifetime (I cannot handle the pressure if it is too short).
2. Must be in the money or almost in the money (better chance that it does not become expensive toilet paper).
3. The lower the premium, the better (of course, what a silly statement!).

Due to the warrant's limited lifetime, I will never buy a warrant (or bottom fish) and wait for the underlying stock to turn bullish. The risk is not worth it.

My choices (in decreasing preference):
- IOICorp: CE, CG, CF
- KLK: CE, CF
- Bursa: CF, CI, CH
- Maybank: CF, CG, CE
- PBBank: CD, CF, CE
- Resorts: CE, CD
- YTL: CE, CF

Blue chips

The following blue chips with warrant are bullish (based on my criterias for weekly & daily time frame):
BJTOTO GAMUDA IOICORP KLK MAYBANK SIME TM YTL YTLPOWR

I'm in BJToto, Gamuda, IOICorp & YTLPower. I'm also in Resorts and PBBank.

I'm looking into Bursa, Sime and YTL.

Daily chart for KLCI is overbought. Hopefully, the trend is strong and it can continue to stay overbought. It's almost touching 1500. Using channel theory, the upper limit is around 1520 to 1540 (depending on the time frame). I don't like to give targets, but one must see how it react at this potential selling point.

Today the construction and finance counters rallied. Maybank failed to turn out from my Metastock filter! Looking back at yesterday's chart, my eye filter would have rate a buy yesterday. I don't know how did it slip from me.

Sector Index Analysis

KLCI Weekly Chart

Uptrend intact. KLCI weekly chart is not yet overbought. RSI divergence downtrend broken. Technically, it can go to 1500 and above. KLCI-CA and KLCI-CC is a good play if KLCI continues to go up. I have position in both of them.

Property Index Weekly Chart

RSI downtrend broken, indicating the downward pressure is over. But no sign on the continuation of uptrend. I will not play any property counter yet.

Plantation Index Weekly Chart

Still going up strongly. I have positions in IOICorp and Kretam warrant.

Finance Index Weekly Chart

Struggling to built a base. No sign of continuation of uptrend yet. I only have position in PBBank warrant as its chart is the best among the rest. I'm looking at Bursa too.

Construction Index Weekly Chart

Some sign of continuation of uptrend (i.e. stochastic) but not yet fully confirm. The only counter I have a position now is Gamuda warrant.

Recovering

Thanks for the comforting words. Just when I am in the process of recovering, the market make a big move. Yesterday I wrote down the stocks that I wanted to buy, usually I buy in the closing hours. But some of them have moved up so much. I was looking at Gamuda, IOICorp, Kretam and Sime.

By the way, in my recovering process, I wrote a flash application to calculate the warrant premium and gearing. I did this because the number of warrants (including covered warrants) are increasing until I find it very hard to do it manually using my Excel. What this flash do is that it retrieves the data from Yahoo and calculate the premium/gearing. I'm looking for a free website to publish this flash so that you guys may benefit from it. But due to the security settings of the flash player, it doesn't work.
